There are lots of things to do whilst based at the cabins.

    Walking

There are footpaths along the canal leading to the local nature reserve, into the hills, or to Newtown along the river.  There is a local OS map in the cabin along with directions for a number of circular routes.  More routes are available from Walking Newtown. There are also some lovely walks around Clywedog, near Llanidloes, and in the Hafren Forest up to the Source of the Severn.

    Cycling

There is a lovely cycle path into Newtown or in the other direction to Welshpool that you can access from just below the cabins.  Or there are many quiet country lanes where you could cycle to Gregynog, Berriew or Montgomery.  If you want to go further afield you can take your bikes (or hire them) to the Elan Valley, Lake Vyrnwy or the Mawddach Estuary for traffic-free routes.

    Wildlife

There is lots of wildlife to watch from the cabins, but if you want to walk down to the local nature reserve you can spend time in the hides watching birds on the lakes there.  There are a number of Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust reserves in the area – so bring your binoculars!

    Fishing

There is free fishing (coarse and game) available from our fields onto the River Severn.  You just need a rod licence.  There is fishing available on Fachwen Pool locally (permit required) and on Clywedog Lake (permit required) where you can also hire a boat to go out and fish on the lake.
